Abuja, Nigeria – Jonathan Zwingina, a former Senate Majority Leader and a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, has reportedly passed away at the age of 70.
According to The Bureau Newspaper, Zwingina, who served as the Director-General of MKO Abiola’s campaign during the historic June 12, 1993 presidential election, died on Wednesday, October 2, in Abuja, after a prolonged illness.
Although an official announcement from his family is yet to be made, Leadership Newspaper confirms the passing of the Adamawa State-born politician.
Zwingina, a former senator representing Adamawa South Senatorial District, was a key figure in shaping Nigeria’s political landscape. A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he later aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) during his political career.
His death marks the end of an era, as he leaves behind a legacy of significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.
