The Federal Government has launched the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA) Ambassador Programme in Akwa Ibom State, a strategic initiative aimed at deepening youth engagement and enhancing grassroots participation in national development.
Speaking during the opening ceremony of the ARISE Youth Skills Week 2025 in Uyo, the Minister of Youth Development described the programme as a deliberate effort to bring federal youth empowerment initiatives closer to communities.
He announced that two youth ambassadors would be appointed in each local government area to champion key programmes of the Ministry, including the Bamboo Youth Empowerment Scheme, the Nigerian Youth Academy (NiYA), and the Digital Literacy For All (DL4ALL) initiative.
“To the young people here today: You are not just the future, you are the present. Your ideas, energy, and courage have the power to transform Nigeria,” the Minister said, urging youths to take advantage of available opportunities.
He praised the Akwa Ibom State Government for hosting the Youth Skills Week and described the state’s Youth Skills Pitch Challenge as “a model for other states.”
According to him, creating platforms for young people to pitch ideas and receive support is among the most impactful forms of empowerment.
Highlighting the critical role of technology in today’s economy, the Minister underscored the growing importance of digital skills, artificial intelligence, and innovation across diverse sectors such as agriculture, health, fashion, education, and the creative arts.
Drawing from insights gathered during a recent visit to the United Arab Emirates, he stressed the need for robust support systems to help young Nigerians turn innovative ideas into sustainable businesses.
The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to working with state governments to ensure that Nigerian youth are skilled, empowered, and globally competitive.
Representing the Executive Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Youth Development, Dr. Ekerette Ekanem, restated the state’s dedication to youth empowerment through enhanced access to innovation and opportunity.
