In a recent tease on social media, Golden Boy promoter, Oscar De La Hoya has hinted at the potential of a Golden Boy vs Top Rank ‘5 vs 5’ event in September in Las Vegas, after the success of the recent Matchroom vs Queensberry event with the same concept.
The June 1st event saw Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions pitted against Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, with Queensberry getting the clean sweep, winning all five bouts.
The event saw impressive performances from the Queensberry team, with Hamzah Sheeraz scoring a knockout win over Ammo Williams, Zhilei Zhang potentially retiring Deontay Wilder, Nick Ball dethroning Ray Ford to take his first world title, Willy Hutchinson handing Craig Richards a career defeat, and Daniel DuBois stopping Filip Hrgovic to set up a potential September clash with AJ at Wembley.
Eddie Hearn has already hinted at the recent ‘5 vs 5’ being the first of many.
Golden Boy vs Top Rank
In a tweet the day after the event, Oscar De La Hoya wrote,
He has since taken to Instagram, posting the following:
There has been no word on what match-ups might be a part of this event if it takes place, though some potential big match-ups could be:
William Zepeda vs Vasiliy Lomachenko
Jaime Munguia vs Janibek Alimkhanuly
Ryan Garcia vs Shakur Stevenson
Oscar Duarte vs Keyshawn Davis
Jose Ramirez vs Sandor Martin
Of course, there is a great deal of potential match-ups and none are yet confirmed, but if the Golden Boy vs Top Rank event does take place, it will be sure to bring some exciting fights.
