Gunmen Raid Enugu College, Kidnap Five Students – Independent Newspaper Nigeria


LAGOS – Gunmen have kidnapped five students from the Enugu State College of Health Technology in the Oji River Local Government Area.

Gathered that the event took place last Thursday evening as the students were exiting the school grounds.

Confirming the event, the Enugu State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, in a statement on Sunday, clarified that reports indicating multiple students were kidnapped were overstated and deceptive. 

DSP Ndukwe mentioned that the police got a tip-off about the assault and promptly reacted, successfully rescuing two of the abducted students.

He did mention that three other students are still unaccounted for. 

He guaranteed that an intense operation is underway to secure the release of the remaining victims and capture the abductors.

On Friday, a gang of armed men assaulted the police checkpoint near the Nnobi Police Station along the Nnobi/Nkpor Road in Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State. 

Reports indicate that the incident occurred late on Friday following the thugs’ siege on the area.

The most recent assault occurred within three weeks of gunmen attacking a police checkpoint on Omata-Nnobi Road in neighboring Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of the State. During that incident, a police officer was fatally shot by the thugs, who also utilized an explosive device in the assault. 

A source in the vicinity, mentioned that one of the officers was killed during the attack, specifying that the deceased officer was the driver of a police vehicle.
