Horror at Amsterdam airport as person is sucked into plane engine

A person has died after falling into a running aircraft engine in the Netherlands today.

The horror incident is believed to have unfolded in front of passengers on a KLM plane at Schipol Airport at around 3pm this afternoon.

Dutch media reported that Flight 1341 was due to leave Amsterdam for Billund in Denmark.

It is still unclear whether the deceased was a traveller or member of staff at the airport.

Posting on X, a Royal Military Police account in the Netherlands said: ‘An incident occurred this afternoon on the Schiphol platform where a person fell into a running aircraft engine and died.

‘All passengers and employees of the flight in question have disembarked and are being taken care of.’

They said an investigation has been launched.

Schiphol Airport also responded, writing: ‘Today there was a horrible incident where a person ended up in an airplane engine.

‘Our thoughts go out to the relatives and we are concerned for the passengers and colleagues who witnessed this.’

Airline KLM said in a statement: ‘Today there was a horrible incident at Schiphol in which a person ended up in a running aircraft engine. This person has died.

‘We receive passengers and employees who have seen this at Schiphol. The circumstances are currently being investigated.

‘For further information – as soon as available – we refer to the Royal Military Police.’
