LAGOS – The Lagos State University (LASU) has again, matriculated another batch of new students, this time, for the Diploma programmes which, expectedly, will facilitate their ultimate admission for full degree programmes of their dreams at the Nigeria’s most digitally inclined university.
On Tuesday , May 28, 2024, LASU administered the matriculation oath on the over 2000-strong academic dream pursuers in response to the ever increasing subscription rate of admission seekers for the globally renowned citadel.
In her welcome speech to the newly admitted students at the ceremony, Prof Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, the Vice Chancellor congratulated the lucky matriculants for making the admission list of the university after a rigorous selection process.
The VC, who was ably represented by Prof Olufunsho Omobitan, the Vice Chancellor, Academics, admonished the academic greenhorns on the need to work very hard in the pursuit of their dreams, adding that only high performers at the completion of the Diploma programme would be considered for admission into the ultimate full degree programmes.
The kind-hearted mother but stern administrator, however warned the diploma students that they are not allowed to participate in any activity of unionism.
She also informed the new students of the varsity’s zero tolerance to cultism even as she further enjoined them to carefully select the company they would keep as she reminded them that “bad company destroys good character”.
She admonished:
“Carry out all your assignments; shun deviant behaviours, avoid indecent dressing, carefully select your friends….do away with corruption and hooliganism and other vices that can expose you to danger as those found culpable will be dealt with in line with our disciplinary mechanisms”.
Delivering his welcome speech, Prof Ibrahim Adeolu Bakare, the Director of LASU Consult Limited noted with delight that the admission rate into the Diploma programme had grown geometrically from mere 500 matriculants in the 2021/2022 session to 1500 in the 2022/2023 and now over 2000 in the 2023/2024 academic session.
