ABA, NIGERIA – The Defence Headquarters has confirmed the killing of five military personnel by terrorists from the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Abia State on Thursday.

Details of the Attack

The incident occurred at the Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Area, near Aba metropolis. The troops were part of Operation UDO KA, deployed to maintain peace and order during the Biafra Day celebrations, which coincided with a sit-at-home order by IPOB/ESN.

Official Statement

In a terse statement, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, described the attack as unprovoked. He stated, “Troops were mass-attacked by the terrorists and killed without any provocation.”

General Buba also mentioned that six civilians were killed in the crossfire. The terrorists reportedly used three tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and attacked from surrounding built-up areas, catching the troops by surprise.

Military Response

The military has vowed to retaliate fiercely against the terrorists. General Buba emphasized, “We will bring overwhelming military pressure on the group to ensure their total defeat.” He confirmed that investigations into the attack are ongoing and assured that the military’s response would be decisive.

Conclusion

This attack marks a significant escalation in the conflict between the Nigerian military and IPOB/ESN terrorists. The military’s commitment to a fierce response underscores the seriousness of the threat posed by these groups and the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
