The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) has commenced a needs assessment of 513 flood-affected communities in Kogi State.
Mr. Jimoh Haruna, N-HYPPADEC’s Director of Finance and Administration, expressed concern about the devastating flood effects in Kogi State, while addressing newsmen on Thursday in Lokoja.
He assured residents affected by the floods that the commission was committed to provide assistance to alleviate their suffering.
Haruna stated that teams have been deployed to the nine affected Local Government Areas to conduct the needs assessment.

“The Commission will relate directly with victims after the assessment.
“This move aims to provide targeted interventions based on the specific requirements of each community.
“N-HYPPADEC advises residents in flood-prone areas to relocate to higher grounds, emphasis safety as a top priority.
“The commission’s intervention focuses on improving living standards, as evident in its prior sensitization campaign urging residents to move upland.
“The needs assessment will identify infrastructure gaps, decayed structures, and areas requiring renovation or construction,” he said.

Haruna assured that the commission would provide only what the communities required.
He also highlighted the commission’s successful erosion control project at Akpankiti Community, which prevented flooding in the area.
“The KotonKarfe project is one of our star projects.
“In 2022, the road was cut off due to poor drainage. We addressed the issue, and today the road is motorable,” Haruna said.
