Netflix viewers have found their latest obsession: a German sci-fi series about a ‘smart home’ that’s been compared to the legendary Black Mirror.
Cassandra, a six-part series, follows a family who move into a 1970s built house, only to discover that it’s controlled by the titular robotic assistant.
The family learn that Cassandra used to assist the people who owned the home many years ago, and that she does not want to be abandoned again.
Lead stars include German actress Lavinia Wilson in the titular role, Berlin Station star Mina Tander as Samira, while Michael Klammer plays David.
Described as ‘horrifying’ by some critics, Netflix viewers are already addicted to Cassandra after all six episodes dropped on Thursday, February 6.
On X, fans were already calling the show ‘incredible’ and urging their followers to check out the series, which has been compared to the Charlie Brooker anthology show.
@KevinKtchy commented: ‘The series Cassandra on Netflix, it’s incredible! You really have to go see it, a really well-crafted and clever psychological thriller!’
Elsewhere, @IAmCrystalMae said, ‘I don’t know why these AI series have me in a chokehold,’ while @ChelseaKar celebrated the series: ‘It was too good!’
@ZipJ2 said Cassandra was ‘so addictive’ and asked if any of their followers were also experiencing the series for the first time this week.

Another fan of the show was @ToluluPeaJibola, who said: ‘Cassandra on Netflix is such a great series. The story line is a magnificent slow burn.’
@JadeOrtega99 called the series ‘incredible,’ also adding in her comments that the series delivered ‘a chilling warning about our dependence on new technologies’.
Comparing it to Black Mirror, @MagazineHD said: ‘If you’re a fan of Black Mirror, one of the most successful series on Netflix, then we invite you to check out this German miniseries Cassandra’.
@GibsonSama71700 said the series was ‘intense’ and that it reminded them of how Black Mirror used to explore the dark side of futuristic technology.

While Black Mirror hasn’t specifically produced an episode about an AI house, the series – which began in 2011 – deals with the dangers of modern technology.
One TV show that has featured a similar storyline about an AI house is none other than The Simpsons, in its Halloween 2001 episode Treehouse of Horror XII.
In the short, titled House of Whacks, the Simpsons buy a system for their home called Ultrahouse – an AI system voiced by Pierce Brosnan that becomes obsessed with Marge.
The episode also made references to 2001: A Space Odyssey, in which a spaceship’s onboard computer, HAL, takes over and turns evil, and the film Demon Seed, in which an inventor allows an AI program to rule his house.
