The Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson says the priority for teaching unions should be children and their life chances – as she dismissed criticism of her plans to revamp school inspections.
Under the proposals, which are part of wider reforms to education – Ofsted will grade schools with a new five-point ‘report card’, covering a number of key areas, including attendance and inclusion.
Unions say it will “subject a beleaguered profession to yet more misery”.
