House Minority Leader Chinda Warns of “Double Tragedy” for Lawmaker Alex Ikwechegh Over Assault Case

House Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda has cautioned that Rep. Alex Ikwechegh could face “double jeopardy” over his alleged assault on e-hailing driver Stephen Abuwatseya in Abuja last month. Speaking on Inside Sources on Channels TV, Chinda confirmed that Ikwechegh is undergoing legal proceedings and also faces disciplinary action from the House.

“Presently, he is being prosecuted. He is at the Magistrate Court. The House has also sent him to the disciplinary committee on the same issue,” Chinda noted, adding that public figures, like parliamentarians, are held to high moral standards.

Ikwechegh, representing Aba North & South Federal Constituency, allegedly assaulted Abuwatseya after an argument over the delivery of snails. The incident drew widespread criticism, especially after a recording surfaced where Ikwechegh allegedly threatened Abuwatseya. Following his arrest, Ikwechegh issued an apology to Nigerians, expressing regret over the incident.
