The Pan-Yoruba socio-political organization Afenifere stated on Tuesday that President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Anniversary broadcast closely aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda, the manifesto he presented during his campaign.
Mr. Jare Ajayi, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, noted that while the President addressed several current challenges facing the nation, some aspects of his speech seemed more futuristic.
“It is important to recognize that the President acknowledged the economic difficulties Nigerians are experiencing, including rising living costs and unemployment,” Ajayi stated.
He emphasized that with this acknowledgment, there is an expectation for specific measures to be implemented to address these identified issues, along with tangible results that demonstrate improvement in the harsh conditions outlined by the President.
“We hope that the reforms being undertaken by the government will soon yield people-friendly outcomes,” he added.
Ajayi highlighted the President’s commitment to promoting mechanized farming, aimed at increasing food production and reducing food costs, quoting the President directly.
He also welcomed the planned youth conference to engage young people in nation-building, describing it as a positive initiative.
While agreeing with President Tinubu on the resilience of Nigerians in overcoming challenges, Afenifere reiterated its earlier calls for a stronger focus on addressing the ongoing security crisis.
“The government and security agencies are aware of the necessary actions. We hope that the required determination and resources will be deployed to combat insecurity, or at least minimize it,” Ajayi concluded.
