The prevailing tussle over the Kano emirship stool took another dimension on Sunday as supporters of the deposed 15th emir Aminu Ado Bayero staged a peaceful demonstration against the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as 16th Emir of Kano.
The demonstrations erupted shortly after hundreds of Bayero loyalists held a special prayer session at the Nassarawa palace along the state road that Bayero is presently occupying.
During the prayer session led by a clergy Mal. Umar Mai Salati, the supporters sought a divine intervention against the dissolution of the five first-class emirs and the return of peace to Kano.
Rising from the prayer session, the angry supporters set a burning fire on the major road that led to the Government House while leading about a three-kilometer distance demonstration.
The protesters were flanked by placards with several inscriptions kicking against Kano state Emirate Council Law that repealed the existing emirates established by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
Meanwhile, reinforcement of security operatives including the military, DSS, and police were noticed at the Nassarawa palace where the dethroned emir Bayero is presently residing.
Bayero who returned to Kano early hours on Saturday two days after his removal amid heavily armed security operatives, is being guided apparently to avoid violence attack.
Although, the police vehemently declined to carry out the instruction, Kano State Government had directed Bayero’s arrest for alleged move to cause chaos in the state.
At the Gidan Rumfa palace, the official residence of emir of Kano, our correspondent observed a massive bombardment of local hunters and state own vigilante mounting surveillance against external aggression.
A few police officers and men of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDS) were present at the palace.
Meanwhile, a social cultural group, Arewa Social Contract Initiatives, worried by the raging anxiety in the ancient city over emirship rumble, on Sunday warned the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, to leave Kano urgency in the spirit of peace and stability.
Besides, the state deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam, has led top government functionaries, including commissioners, members of the state and federal legislature under the ruling New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) and the 44 interim local government administrators, in relocating to the emir’s palace.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday issued a fresh reappointment letter for the reinstatement of Sanusi after signing the repealed Emirate Council 2024 law which abolished the Ganduje’s created emirate.
The Arewa group lamented that the continued hibernating within the city along side the state recognized Emir was capable of igniting needless civil unrest.
Leader of the group, Sani Muhamud Darma, issued the warning at the end of emergency meeting of members drawn across the 19 Northern states held Saturday in Kano.
In a communique signed by Darma, the group insisted the sudden return of Aminu Ado Bayero to Kano few days after his removal has clearly negate the tradition of the Emirate Council which he belongs to.
The Chairman, reminded the dethroned Emir that history would never be kind with him if he stand as the source of uncertainty and chaos which might consumed many lives in the State.
He said, “Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero the Dethroned Emir of Kano should remember that the same Person he is challenging today vacated the same seat for him and even be disappeared per away from Kano, but he accepted what happened in good faith without causing any uproar, why are you not replicating his actions”.
The Chairman of the group, said Aminu Ado Bayero should borrow a leaf from his siblings and even his very close Brother the Emir of Bichi Nasiru Ado Bayero for quietly vacating Kano without doing anything that will jeopardize peace.
“Beautifully, look at the Emir of Bichi and other Emir’s nobody heard anything from them, they respectfully left and vacated their thrones without causing any havoc, that is a clear loves for Kano, Darma added.
“We are in totally against the ill-advised actions of the Dethroned Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, we strongly advised to as matter of urgency relocate and if he has any reservations of what had happened, he should channel it appropriately from wherever he is, but not Kano”.
The Arewa Social Contract Initiatives, recalled that when Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf was campaigning, he had promised Kano People’s that if elected he will change the narratives of Kano Kano Emirates from what he believes is a distortion to where it was before the creation of the additional Emir’s.
“And here is the Governor fulfilling his Campaign promises, no wonder Kano People’s are so calm and happy with the development, as you move around one will see nothing has change, People are happily going about their normal Businesses”.
He added, “somebody cannot sits in Abuja or wherever and Decides the faith of Kano, the fact that Kano with it attendant volatility but remained peaceful and calm, clearly shows that Emir Sanusi is been accepted wholly”
“For this, we are advising Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero not buy the idea of plunging Kano into chaos, his actions right now shows that he is hovering a personal desire at the detriment of Kano peace and stability”. Darma noted.
Against the backdrop of agitation, a close associate of Bayero had revealed that the deposed emir will remain in Kano until the injunction granted by the Federal high Court is heard and determined.
The palace source who preferred to remain anonymous, told The Guardian that Bayero would not be intimidated by Kano state government to leave Kano until Justice is seen done to his untimely removal from office.
