The British Olympic Association are investigating a racist message allegedly sent by Team GB rugby sevens player Amy Wilson-Hardy.
Officials are looking into a screengrab of a WhatsApp conversation which allegedly shows Team GB and England star Wilson-Hardy making a racist comment.
The grab, which was uploaded to Instagram, shows a WhatsApp conversation in which Wilson-Hardy appears to be posing while wearing a dark-coloured facemask.
An unnamed third party replies to the picture with: ‘genuine chocolate face’, which prompts the response: ‘Thought I’d have a better chance with the blacks x’.
Wilson-Hardy played for Team GB in their 17-7 Paris Olympics quarter-final defeat to the United States on Monday evening.
She has played 15-a-side rugby for England and played for Bristol Bears, Wasps and Ealing Trailfinders in Premiership Women’s Rugby.
A BOA spokesperson said: ‘The British Olympic Association has been made aware of an image published on a social media platform and is investigating the matter.’
Team GB took a first-half lead in their quarter-final clash with USA but the Americans fought back at Stade de France to progress to the semis.
America’s vice-captain Lauren Doyle said: ‘The quarter-final is the game that we train for.
‘It decides your top four, so to come out there and get the job done against the team that devastated us three years ago, I can’t even put into words how perfect that situation was.
‘It took every single one of us doing our job, connecting and getting the momentum back together, it was just a really special moment, and I am so excited for the semi.’
In the men’s competition, hosts France won gold after beating Fiji 28-7 on Saturday. It was France’s first medal of the 2024 Olympics.
France star Antoine Dupont said: ‘It is sensational. It is unbelievable. It is a big reward for us.
‘It is huge. We worked a lot for a lot of months and a lot of years – in some players’ case – for this moment.’
