Toll operations have resumed at the four plazas along the Keffi-Makurdi highway following a two-hour suspension caused by payment processing challenges.
At the Aboshon Toll Plaza in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, noticeable improvements in electronic payment processing were observed across all toll booths, according to a report by Radio Nigeria.
Speaking on the development, Assistant Plaza Manager, Mr. Christian Kure, confirmed that while the system is now functioning more efficiently, a major challenge remains—many motorists, particularly commercial drivers, do not have bank credit cards, making electronic payments difficult.
Temporary Suspension Due to Technical Glitches
Earlier in the day, toll operations were temporarily suspended due to network challenges affecting electronic payments, leading to long queues and frustration among road users.
Mr. Kure noted that the lack of awareness about the payment system also contributed to the delays. He assured motorists that the issues had been resolved and operations would now run smoothly.
Motorists Express Concerns Over New Payment System
Some motorists expressed surprise over the toll payment, stating that there was no adequate prior notice before reaching the toll points.
The new toll collection system, which commenced last Tuesday, led to significant traffic congestion at the Garaku Toll Gate, with many drivers unprepared for cashless transactions.
Affected motorists are now calling on toll operators to:
- Increase public awareness about the payment system.
- Open additional lanes to ease traffic congestion.
- Consider alternative payment options for those without ATM cards.
The situation highlights the need for better implementation strategies to ensure seamless toll collection and avoid unnecessary delays for road users.
