Today is a good day for any professional procrastinators who begin typing out a reply in the group chat only to get distracted and forget to send.

WhatsApp, the most popular messaging platform in the world, has finally rolled out drafts.

The function, unsurprisingly named ‘Message Drafts’, was packed into the latest WhatsApp update over the weekend.

You can, of course, technically already draft messages. But now any unsent messages will have a display a small ‘Draft’ note next to them.

WhatsApp rolling out new feature to let you save messages as drafts WhatsApp, the most popular messaging platform on the planet, finally has a drafts feature. Why did it take until the tail-end of 2024 to institute a seemingly simple tool that has been available for rival platforms for years? Who knows, but it?s here now. The appropriately-named Message Drafts offers ?a new and easy way to find your unfinished messages on WhatsApp.? Just look for the ?Draft? indicator at the beginning of a message. The platform says that these unfinished messages will move to the top of the chats list so ?people can quickly locate them.?

Drafts will also automatically be dragged up right to the top of your chats, though just below any pinned messages.

It does mean, however, you have one less excuse why you ‘unintentionally’ ghosted your date from the other night.

‘Starting a reply to a message and getting distracted… we know what that’s like,’ WhatsApp said

‘This why we’re introducing drafts! When you start a message and don’t finish it, you’ll see a draft indicator on the chat so you remember to hit send.’

WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, has been rather busy recently. The platform only just introduced ‘lists’ that let users create custom categories as well as being able to search images.

And give the app a few years or so, and it wants to make phone numbers obsolete altogether. WhatsApp revealed last month it intends to let people add contacts by swapping usernames rather than digits.
