Car Boot Sale: Feet Tappin
Single – Out Now
Digital
London quartet Car Boot Sale capture a wonderful essence of vintage rock and energetic fun on the new single Feet Tappin. As comparable to the likes of The Clash and The Jam as it is to Thin Lizzy, the track also captures a more current flare with an essence of Sports Team and The Strokes.
Self-recorded in a basement studio in Dalston, the track is characterised by its strikingly dry production, distorted guitar tones, rhythmic bass and driving, boxy drums. Raw and understated, the instrumentation is led by the half spoken half sung vocals, giving a charismatic, compelling central pin that pulls the track towards the anthemic, chantabed chorus.
Running through the poetic, story telling lyricism of the verse under dappled sprawls of crunchy guitar, the track enters the chorus for a second time before dipping again to a psychedelic middle-eight. As with the verse, the guitar lines continue to move with a sense of freedom, delivering tasteful licks which overlap above the vocals, before locking into the tight chords of the final chorus.
Talking about the track, the band explains: “We recorded the track ourselves in a basement studio in Dalston. It’s a place where we’ve been honing our craft for the past year now. The energy of that place is special as you can hear the footsteps of the bustling high street, nearby bars and dingy clubs overhead, and that inevitably seeped into the session.
Feet tappin’ is about letting go, dancing and freeing yourself of inhibitions. It’s a rocker that doesn’t let up; one to get the front row bouncing and the soundtrack to a sticky, smoke filled dance floor.”
Having toured across the UK, supporting acts like Fat Dog and Opus Kink, Car Boot Sale have made a name for themselves as one to watch, building a following and a sense of anticipation. The new single Feet Tappin captures exactly what makes the band special: a simplicity and purity that evokes a vintage 70s rock feel whilst managing to also feel exciting and fresh.
