Chart Check: After Breaking Usher & Bruno Mars’ Billboard Record, Chris Brown’s History-Making ‘Residuals’ Continues Its Ascent Up the Hot 100

Despite not having an official music video to support it, Chris Brown‘s latest single – ‘Residuals‘ (from the ’11:11′ album) – is still managing to make historic moves across Billboard.

Just two weeks ago, ‘Residuals’ took possession of the top spot on the Rhythmic Airplay ranking – a Billboard radio chart that measures the popularity of songs played on some of the country’s leading R&B/Hip-Hop stations.

Coming as his 14th topper on this tally, the ascension broke a four-way tie Chris had with Usher, Bruno Mars, and The Weeknd (born Abel Tesfaye) for most #1s among male vocalists on this hitlist at the time.

Having since lost the chart championship to the latter’s latest hit ‘Timeless,’ Brown is re-tied for the all-time spot with Tesfaye as of this week.

Among all artists, however, only Drake (39) and Rihanna (17) have more.

The loss of the Rhythmic Airplay #1 position didn’t negatively impact ‘Residuals’ on the all-genre H0t 100, however, as this week saw the tune pounce to a new peak of #59.

At the rate it’s rising, Brown could be well on his way to breaking his tie with Abel for most top 40 hits among Black male vocalists in the 66-year history of the Hot 100.

Until we find out for sure, look below to see who joins Chris on this week’s TGJ Chart Check: Hot 100 edition.
