Towards the end of last year, David Grubbs announced his first Drag City release in over a decade, Whistle from Above, out February 28th. It’s his first-ever instrumental album for the label and led the way with his very first music video, The Snake on Its Tail.
Joined by Cleek Schrey’s ten-string fiddle and Nate Wooley’s trumpet, his latest album single to drop is “Queen’s Side Eye”, described by his label as a taut, intensively scaled guitar piece with Grubbsian, serpentine changes unfurled in a measured, lucid abstraction.
Other album guests include experimental harp player Rhodri Davies, percussionist/electronics maestro Andrea Belfi and Nikos Veliotis. Don’t miss his UK dates, including Cafe OTO and Glad Cafe (dates below).
