Los Angeles-based trailblazing trio ASHRR released their second album Sunshine Low on 20/20 Recordings on 20 September 2024. The trio is comprised of Steven Davids (lead vocalist), as well as Josh Charles and Ethan Allen who are both producers.
Renowned for their ability to blend bountiful harmonies, textured soundscapes and captivating songwriting, spanning from electronic soul, space disco and indie dance, ASHRR have crafted an album that weaves all of these influences together in an intentional and precise manner. Sunshine Low encapsulates the feeling of serene summer nostalgia, laced with late night excitement.
The 14-track album (which includes bonus tracks with the digital version), features their notable tracks ‘Please Don’t Stop The Rain’ an electronic soul gem, driven by a catchy hook, while ‘Sun Song’ melds together world music elements with a touch of modern psychedelia. ‘Fizzy’ is a 70s-inspired soul and dub-disco offering with the gritty vibe of the New York underground, while ‘Sway’ channels the essence of post-punk dance hits. On ‘No Garden’ the band fuses hip-hop with jazz-inflected soul and dub, creating a bass-driven sound, and ‘Different Kind of Life’ encapsulates samsara, the perpetual cycle of desire and the insatiable quest for more.
Producer Josh Charles shares, “Sunshine Low emerged from the pandemic and captures the profound connection we’ve forged over the years. We’ve woven influences from 70s psychedelia and afrobeat, 80s alternative, and contemporary electronic music into something we hope becomes truly timeless. With Sunshine Low, we’ve embraced our roots in soul, funk, jazz, and experimental music, crafting something that’s both reflective and joyous. We’re excited to share this album with the world.”
ASHRR have also collaborated with underground UK dance DJ and producer Felix Dickinson who crafted an enigmatic remix of their track ‘Fizzy’ for the acclaimed Crazy P Curate: Vol 1 compilation. A remix album is also underway, so be sure to be on the lookout for that.
