Emily Hines, a Nashville, TN-based songwriter whose self-described “chronically-sincere” roots stretch back to an Ohio farm upbringing, recently announced her debut album, These Days, set for release on August 1st. The news follows her February signing with Keeled Scales, an occasion marked by the release of her single Cowgirl Suit and recently followed by album opener My Own Way.
Her latest single, All of Our Friends, continues to channel introspective depths, calling to mind the melancholic and tender vibes of Adrianne Lenker. Watch the accompanying video, directed by Nashville filmmaker Abby Holmes.
Speaking on “All of Our Friends,” Hines reveals its origins: “I wrote this song in a guy’s bedroom while he was working in the other room. Fresh out of college, I was naive and earnest, putting everything under a microscope. I’d fallen in love a little too quickly and felt the familiar nausea of an intimacy hangover. The lyrics are mostly questions I knew better than to ask out loud.” This candid reflection suggests an artist unafraid to dissect burgeoning intimacy’s messy, often unspoken realities.
