You may or may not be aware that we have a Premium Newsletter on Substack. Our primary reason for the newsletter is to raise awareness of KLOF Mag and to garner support for what we do. As many of you are already aware, we cover a broad range of music, weaving through weird and modern folk, jazz and avant-garde, psychedelic and experimental sounds, guitar soli, roots, American primitivism, Improvisational, and more. Through a team of freelance writers and music lovers, we offer news, reviews, interviews, and other features and complement our written work with lovingly curated playlists and mixtapes.
Dwindling ad revenue means that independent publications like ours now rely more heavily on our readers to stay afloat. In return for supporting our work through our Premium Newsletter, we offer exclusive content* in return. This costs a little more than a cup of coffee per month—£5 per month (or the equivalent of £4.17 per month if paid annually). The generosity of your support allows us to continue as an independent online music publication and to keep producing the content and features we’ve become known for and which have introduced many to new music.
Don’t take my word for it…
Among our premium supporters is Colin Meloy of The Decemberists. Colin, who writes Colin Meloy’s Machine Shop here on Substack, was the guest editor of ‘Substack Reads’ recently, and our publication was among his top Substacks:
KLOF Mag has been using its Substack as a way to disseminate its superb mixtapes and playlists. I’ve learned about most of the music I’ve loved over the past couple years from the fine people at this publication.
The post that Colin highlighted was an exclusive post containing the Flowery Noontide playlist, so we decided to share the playlist publicly to highlight some of the content we offer. While we have a healthy number of subscribers, the majority of those are free subscribers
