Irish experimental-synth-pop artist HANNAHBELLA returns with the intense, evocative and colourful new single Skin.
Recorded and mixed alongside acclaimed producer Jessica Richardson (WhenTheBeatIsBad), the single brings a vibrant colliderscope of glitching electronics, intricate, creative ideas with a driving sense of purpose and energy. The result is an accessible yet experimental collision of genres and brave musical choices.
A soundscape which brings layers of analogue synths which swirl and twitch around the lof-fi electronic drums, Skin opens with its elegant, melodic verse as HANNAHBELLA’s light and sweet vocal glides over the soundscape surrounded by a layer of elegant harmonies. Gradually progressing, the vocals take on a boxy filter, shifting them back in the mix as a four to the floor kick beat takes hold.
The track fully bursts into life in its evocative and sultry, spoken-word chorus underpinned by driving, deep fuzzy, sub heavy electronic bass and punching beats. As the track flows through its second verse and final chorus, the energy is held through the continued 4 to floor before the track closes through a flurry of glitching vocal cuts, glitches and grinding sub bass.
Speaking about the single, Hannah explains:
“I wanted to create a haunting love song but ultimately I wanted it to be hot and sharp. I loved the idea of two spirits/souls being infatuated or intertwined with one another so I ran with that in mind when writing the lyrics.
Sonically, Jess (WhenTheBeatIsBad) and I wanted to keep in line with this theme so we kept it minimal yet making what we had huge so when that fierce bass line was born we were obsessed.”
A single which showcases a radiant depth in musicality as well as an eagerness to push boundaries, Skin highlights what an exciting new artist HANNAHBELLA is.
