Lisa Knapp and Gerry Diver recently announced their forthcoming album, Hinterland (out 7th March 2025), and they led the way with their debut single as a duo, Hawk and Crow. Their new album brings together their deep-seated love for English and Irish folk traditions, which weaves together folk horror, remembrance, and the landscapes that inspire their art.
“This album is a mix of themes, often drawn from the natural world and the people who inhabit it,” says Knapp. “We wanted to explore both what we know and what lies beyond our understanding in nature and history.”
Today, they are sharing their new single, Train Song, featuring another brilliant video from Marry Waterson. The song unfurls beautifully with observations from a train window reminiscent, in nature, of the meditative reading of the shipping forecast. Knapp paints a picture of our landscape–hedgerows, canals and sub-stations… while Marry’s visuals and Knapp and Diver’s arrangements weave together in such an unconventionally attractive manner that it affords those everyday scenes a magical curiosity, as if we’re noticing them for the first time.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign, the album is now available to pre-order (Digital/CD/Vinyl) here: https://lisaknapp.ffm.to/hinterland
‘Hinterland’ will be released on 7th March 2025 and launched at World Heart Beat, Embassy Gardens on 1st March with more live dates to follow.
