Out Now

It seems recently that barely a month goes by without another fantastic Luna Marble release – and thankfully, November is no exception.

Begging Mercy sees the band at their spectacular, intense best as it shifts through the gears from a smouldering blues intro into soaring, epic rock territory. And it’s a song you can tell they really enjoy getting their teeth into, as they lead us from subjugation to rebellion and, ultimately, liberation. The band explain; ‘Inspired by Maria’s upbringing in a Catholic school, she thought it would be interesting to write a song which is a juxtaposition of Catholic practice and lust to bring tension into the narrative.’ Underlining the attention to artistic detail, the accompanying video (launching on 11th Nov) has an atmospheric church setting, as singer Maria gives it to the big guy.

Musically, the track reflects the challenging subject, with moments of divine vocal subtlety and heavenly backing vocals contrasting with Dragos’ down and dirty, bluesy guitar riffs and Maria’s increasingly powerful and defiant choruses. Proceedings reach an explosive climax as Dragos delivers an exhilarating solo, his guitar interweaving with Hammond organ to great effect, before Maria fires her final salvo; ‘Ain’t no satisfaction could free me from my sins, ’cause I’m ready to go and take what I own, if you’d let me explore.’

It’s been great to witness the emergence of Luna Marble over the past twelve months or so as an authentic force in contemporary blues rock and, with Begging Mercy, they deliver yet again. Most of the current spate of releases have been live staples for some time, which have evolved into the fully-formed studio versions we’re now able to enjoy in the comfort of our homes. But while they sit back and fondly watch these babies make their way into the big wide world, rest assured Luna Marble will already be working on phase two.
