Luna Marble : Sea Of Sorrow

The recent offerings from Luna Marble have you reaching for the thesaurus in the search of new superlatives. Suffice to say, their bodacious new single, Sea Of Sorrow, doesn’t disappoint.
The intro to Sea Of Sorrow is the calm before the storm as Luna Marble cut a chilled groove, Maria delivering a smouldering, sultry vocal before Dragos lets loose with a razor-sharp riff to announce a change of pace and mood. As ever, it’s the interplay between Maria’s sublime vocals as she smoothly transitions from silky soft croon to feral growl, and Dragos’ multiple layers of scorching axe-wielding magic, which give Sea Of Sorrow that indelible Luna Marble stamp. But this is a band which covers all bases, and in drummer Sean and bassist David, they also possess an impressive rhythm section, coming into their own here with their ability to add the subtlety of jazz musicians to the power of born rockers.
Sea Of Sorrow is a song several years in the making, penned by Maria in 2018 before Luna Marble’s inception, but like the band, it has evolved into a fully-formed thing of beauty. As the track progresses, it instills a sense of desolation offset by underlying defiance; ‘Loneliness is what I know, Madness drives my soul, Tears you know they won’t fill my eyes no more.’ Maria explains; ‘The song explores the struggle of being stuck in the wrong place and wanting to take matters into your hands.’ We are left in no doubt that the production and attention to detail is being elevated to a new level, with the haunting backing-vocal accompaniment to Dragos’ glam-tinged solo providing a highlight before segueing into Maria’s rousing finale.
Perhaps the most refreshing aspect of Luna Marble’s contribution to date is their obvious respect for the creative process, always making music for the love of it rather than the sake of it. With their sheer determination to produce something worthwhile and lasting, they deliver high quality with attention to detail, but never at the expense of soul – a nod to the values of their classic rock muses in an industry where ephemerality is increasingly the norm. Grab the chance to catch them live for a night to remember.
