Playlist: The Monday Morning Brew #72

This week’s Monday Morning Brew is largely ambient and experimental in flavour, giving this one-hour 15-track playlist a cohesive and journey-like feel. If you are a premium newsletter subscriber, your trip lasts over two hours with an additional 14 tracks (details here).

Music featured includes Norwegian experimental folk collective Völvur with a track from their wonderful 2021 collaboration with Alasdair RobertsThe Old Fabled River; Cedars, the mystifying 9th album in the Field Works series, that combines cosmic Americana with Western ambient and Middle Eastern influences. Other highlights include The Instruments, a project centred around cellist and composer Heather McIntosh (which I wrote about briefly here). There’s a double helping from the incredible composer and sound artist Brian Harnetty – if you’ve not yet explored his work, then visit his Bandcamp page here.

Other favourites include Sarah Louise, Marisa Anderson, P.G. Six, The Memory Band and Sage Alyte, the brainchild of Roxane Métayer (Disques du chevet, Morc, Krut) and David Jarrín Zabala (Disposición Asoleada, Lexi Disques).

Sage Alyte understands that daily life is filled with imperceptible ritual cycles of initiation, sowing, harvesting and metamorphosis that are expressed through dances whose steps are vaporous and minimal: in a sip of tea, the turn of a key, the tinkling of a gong.

More recent releases include Blake Hornsby, which we recently reviewed here.
