HomeMusicPrediction : Katy Perry’s ‘143’ On Pace to Miss the Top 10...

Prediction [Billboard 200]: Katy Perry’s ‘143’ On Pace to Miss the Top 10 & Debut with Her Lowest First-Week Sales To Date

Despite watching her latest album, ‘143,’ clock into the top digital music sales positions in countries around the world, Katy Perry seems poised to see the LP land a lukewarm welcome in her native USA.

Details inside.

Predicted First-Week Sales (SPS): 37,000 – 42,000 units

Predicted Billboard 200 Debut:  #10-#15

According to industry analysts at HDD, Perry’s seventh studio album will open to first-week total sales of up to 42,000 units by the end of its inaugural sales tracking period.

If the prediction above rings true it will mark the lowest opening of any of the Pop diva’s major-label offerings – snatching the personal record from 2020’s ‘Smile‘ (which premiered and peaked at #5 with sales of 50,000).

What’s more, the projected modest commercial performance of ‘143’ could see it become her first major-label effort to miss the Billboard 200’s top 10 upon arrival as each of its predecessors – ‘One of the Boys’ (#9), ‘Teenage Dream‘ (#1), ‘Prism‘ (#1), ‘Witness‘ (#1), and ‘Smile’ (#5) – all perched in the chart region.

Said to be mounting a killer promotional week in the days ahead, however, here’s hoping her endeavors across TV, print, radio, and Web help move the needle to ensure a top 10 placement.

Keep it locked to That Grape Juice when Perry’s final first-week figure is revealed on Sunday (September 29).
