Full story below…
Appearing on Good Morning America, the ‘Smile’ singer revealed that she received the diagnosis in June of this year.
Speaking candidly with host Michael Strahan, the songbird shared that she had been fearful of getting checked due to prior issues with dense breasts and having had scares previously that were cysts.
However, when a new lump was discovered, she had it tested and cancer was confirmed as its cause.
Shanice admitted, “I literally lost my smile.”
The performer, 51, subsequently had a double mastectomy and was supported in earnest by husband, actor Flex Alexander.
Explaining her rationale for opening up, she said:
“I wanted to come on the show to encourage women that you have to keep smiling. I got my smile back. I want to tell women to get their mammograms, your ultrasounds…yearly. If I had gone sooner, I could have caught it when it was at stage zero.
It’s not a death sentence. If you get [it] early, you can beat this.”
