Serial producers of fine indie rock / pop Sleeping Together are at it again with the release of their latest single, I Won’t Tell If You Don’t, the final contribution to the band’s first EP.

In typical Sleeping Together style, I Won’t Tell If You Don’t tackles the intricacies of relationships and young adulthood, focusing on their ambiguous approach to hedonism. Is it better to tow the line and do the right thing or have a good time and to hell with the consequences? The guys might look like butter wouldn’t melt in their mouths, but they’re clearly no strangers to the occasional misdemeanour, and here they ponder the pros and cons of a secret tryst with an ex, despite warnings from those who possibly know better.

Urgent vocals combine with Mike’s driving guitar to instil a sense of risk as Alex asks; ‘Wouldn’t it be a shame to waste the obsession that I have gained?’ And it wouldn’t be a Sleeping Together single without a ridiculously catchy refrain; ‘I won’t tell if you don’t, ’cause pleasure sounds great, give me a time and place.’ Mirroring the demographic of their enthusiastic and ever-expanding live following, this is primarily a record played by a young band for young people, bearing in mind most 40-year-olds are more likely to be worried about the mortgage payments than a daring rendezvous. Nevertheless, as always, there are also enough musical references and accomplished performances to keep a wider audience fully engaged.

Sleeping Together poured serious resources into securing extended recording time at London’s prestigious Narcissus Studio, and this commitment has proved to be well worth the effort. The band’s output has gone from strength to strength, and with plenty more where this came from, the next few months promise to be highly productive for the quartet.
