SPIN KLASS, the self-proclaimed collection of John McClane fanatics, budgie enthusiasts and substation controllers unleash their debut album, Klass Hits.

Wythenshawe’s SPINN KLASS, of whom Elbow frontman Guy Garvey declares are “Flying the flag for fun Manchester music” have released Klass Hits, which is an apt title, delivering exactly what it says on the tin (or rather than sleeve). The South Manchester trio, formed in 2021, consist of Chris (lead singer & guitar), Kieran (synths & other things), Josh (bass). Chris and Kieran have been in bands together since the age of 15, including The Hems and The Minx, whilst Josh, after being a roadie for the latter joined the pair of their next adventure, Heavy On The Magic.

Klass Hits mixes some of the highlights from the EP’s Sod It and Feral Bop, such as Fanfare For Common Sense and Slowloris, released in 2021 and 2022 respectively along with last year’s stand-alone singles, This Is Love and The Other Room and several new tracks, including current single Greenfields.

There are a couple of things I love about SPIN KLASS. Firstly, they’re all genuinely decent blokes. Take frontman Chris for example, he leans into his dubious taste in shirts whilst being a Director of the organisation Music Evermore which provides kids and young people with free and subsidised music tuition across Manchester. As Mr Garvey says, ‘flying the flag for fun’. Musically, there are no rules. The trio play what they want, refusing to fit into any specific genre. The opening, aforementioned, Greenfields is synth heavy with a psychedelic edge and could easily feature in a Rick Wakeman odyssey whilst the mid-tempo swing of Kisses From Strangers has a Yatch Rock edge to it.

Many of the tracks will be familiar to anyone who has been to a SPIN KLASS gig over the years, something which are always a terrific experience, however the highlight of the album for me is the closing track Blue Blazer. It is THE classic dance anthem you hadn’t realised you were missing. I’m sure last time I saw the band it was around 15mins long. On Klass Hits it’s trimmed to a modest 8mins. I’d defy anyone to remain standing still whilst it’s blasting out!

As the nights begin to draw in Klass Hits is full of positivity to keep you going until it becomes your soundtrack of Spring/Summer 2025.

SPIN KLASS will be launching Klass Hits at Deaf Institute in Manchester on 7th September from 7pm. Tickets available here
