Last year, Welsh songwriter and instrumentalist Gareth Bonello, better known as The Gentle Good, released his fifth studio album Galargan, described KLOF Mag’s Billy Rough as a beautifully accomplished and irresistibly engaging album. Today he is announcing his follow-up Elan.
Scheduled for release in May 2025 via Bubblewrap Collective, ‘Elan’ is described as a psychedelic portrait of the Elan Valley in Powys, Wales. Featuring songs in both Welsh and English, the album explores the landscape, history and politics of this remote valley, which was flooded to provide water for Birmingham at the end of the Victorian era.
Listen to the first single from the album, ‘Tachwedd’ (Welsh for November), with driving percussion, reverby guitar, organ, strings and subtle harmonies, it suggests a very different journey from his last album – aptly described as an upbeat psychedelic celebration of autumn and a reminder to hold onto the light through the coming dark, it sparkles throughout with a bright vibrant energy that’s difficult to resist. Tachwedd is also our Song of the Day.
