It’s almost two years since Ellie Gowers released her superb debut album ‘Dwelling By The Weir‘. Since then, she has continued to firmly root herself in the UK songwriting scene. The accompanying press for Ellie’s new single reveals that she has been working with producer TJ Allen (Bat for Lashes, Hannah Peel, Anna Calvi) and will partner with Absolute Label Services to release a new ep towards her 2024 tour. This time, her new music amplifies her writing; referencing the more contemporary sounds of MIPSO, Gemma Hayes, and Jeff Buckley. After a heavy year of touring away from home, themes of absence, push/pull, and longing emerge from this new and exciting direction.
A Moment (out now) is Ellie Gowers’ first track from music to follow later in 2024. Written after a long period away from home, Ellie explores the peace amid life’s chaos and questions with ‘A Moment’. The song explores the tightness of guilt when not experiencing the familiar feeling of homesickness, and instead wanting to carry on in a place where one can ignore life’s problems and indulge in running away.
Accompanying the single is a beautiful, scenic wide-screen video filmed and edited by Emilie Cotterill, who also took the excellent portrait above. It provides the perfect setting for the chorus line: “Can I have just a moment here/Give me just a moment here?” Hearing this track for the first time suggests we were maybe only scratching the surface of Gowers’ talents—this is a deeply personal offering, one underpinned by newfound creative exploration; exciting times ahead.
