Video Premiere: John Blek – Easy Now

Today, sees the release of ‘Easy Now’, the new single from Cork-born Irish troubadour John Blek. The single provides a promising glimpse into his eagerly awaited new album, ‘Cheer Up,’ which is due out on September 6th on Bigger River Recording Co.

John says about the new single, “There is a comfort in getting older. A sense of perspective that only time can afford you. Looking back on the highs and lows and knowing you survived it all. It’s a serious accomplishment!”

It shows the writer at ease with the passing of time and the safety provided by the knowledge that everything will pass, a sentiment that comes across in the accompanying easy-going lyric video on which John shares:

“I wanted to make a repetitive visual mantra. A reminder of all the peaceful moments. I used videos I had taken on tour over the last year or so and created a loop. Early morning drives, wading knee high in shallow streams, taking a moment in a quiet hotel lobby or appreciating the peace of parking lot coffee under a grey sky. It’s a simple little video.”

Talking about the album, Blek says, “This is a very important record for me. It’s the first of mine that is entirely autobiographical from start to finish. Also, in the past, I have tried to be quite restrained when it came to the production of my songs, but this time around, I wanted to adopt a more is more approach. I wanted to allow each song to dictate its own natural path and take it as far as I could with the resources available to me.”

The new album features guest vocals by Dutch trio Woolf, beautiful arrangements by the Dresden-based Broken Strings and production from John’s long-time collaborator, Brian Casey, recorded at Wavefield Recordings.

Cheer Up is available September 6th, 2024, on Bigger River Recording Co.
