Watch: Chris Corsano – The Full-Measure Wash Down

We recently shared Chris Corsano’s I Don’t Have Missions, the lead single from his forthcoming six-track album The Key (Became The Important Thing [& Then Just Faded Away]). This rare solo release, out June 28th on Drag City Records, finds Corsano performing every part himself and overdubbing each frenzied instrument, including a self-made Gnawa-esque string drum in which the idea for the album is rooted.

His new single, The Full-Measure Wash Down, is described as transcendent passages of minimalist funk-rock and is accompanied by a new music video by visual artist Kim Alpert. On her website, Alpert, who has worked with other Drag City artists, such as Bill MacKay, there is a quote that includes:

Between the world of physical and digital there is a connective element of pure intention.
This is where I play. Somewhere undefined, beyond the boundaries that words make.

Those words suggest a perfect companionship to Corsano’s own deep vision, and the results here seem almost symbiotic. Like some futuristic version of Brion Gysin’s stroboscopic Dreamachine, digital and analogue interweave in organic movements except for Corsano’s dot-matrix head that floats past with intent and purpose. William Burroughs would have surely loved it.

Drag City: Chris plays each part of this arrangement, drawing himself upward and onward in an organic enigma of chicken-egg communication — where does the tale begin, and who’s following who in this enervating flow of throbbing rhythms and compulsive heat?
