Tributes are being paid to a teenage boy who died following a collision between a car and e-scooter in Co Kilkenny after he was named locally as Joe Carthy from Kilkenny city.
The teenager died on Sunday morning from his injuries following a collision on Saturday evening.
The collision took place shortly after 6pm along the Tullaroan road, Bonnettstown, Kilkenny between a car and the 14-year-old who was on an e-scooter.
Emergency services and gardaà rushed to the scene and the teenager was brought to nearby St Lukeâs General Hospital however he passed away earlier today.
The driver of the car was not injured.
The coronerâs office has been notified and a postmortem examination is expected to take place in the coming days.
A sister of the teenager took to social media saying: âLove you so much,â while his brother Philip added: âI will never be the same brother. Love you brother. Iâll be missing you.â
A friend emotionally said: âOh god why did you have to take him. He was just a child with his whole life ahead of him. This is one cruel world we live in. You have broken so many hearts. Please god look over his poor mother and father.â
Gardaà in Kilkenny are appealing to anyone who may have been in the location of the crash between 6pm and 6.30pm on Saturday or motorists with dashcam footage to contact them.
In a statement, gardaà said the road was closed overnight to facilitate a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, which took place this morning. The road has since reopened to traffic.
