England midfielder Georgia Stanway has had knee surgery six months before Euro 2025.
Her club Bayern Munich confirmed in a statement on Thursday that she will be missing for “several months”.
Stanway tore the lateral ligament in her right knee during a training session this week and underwent surgery on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old started every match as England won Euro 2022 and reached the 2023 Women’s World Cup final.
She joined Bayern Munich in May 2022 after seven years at Manchester City, leaving as the club’s top goalscorer with 67 goals in 186 appearances.
The Lionesses return to action in February as they travel to Portugal before hosting world champions Spain in the Women’s Nations League.
Sarina Wiegman’s side currently have several players unavailable with forward Lauren Hemp and defender Alex Greenwood also sidelined with knee injuries.
