During their trip to La Giralda School to visit a group of schoolchildren earlier today, as well as getting to know some of the many pupils and practice some of their Spanish conversation skills, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were also given a selection of heartfelt gifts from the children in a message of thanks for their visit to take home to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Among the items given to the pair which will soon be taken back to their $14million home in Montecito, are numerous handwritten letters, colourful pictures and in a nod to Colombia’s rich cultural heritage with some Colombian style ponchos.
The iconic garment, or Ruana as it is known in the South American nation, is a characteristic and traditional garment originating in Boyacá and was traditionally made by indigenous and mesitzo people. It has since expanded to be made in Cundinamarca, Antioquia, Nariño, Bogotá, Santander, Norte de Santander and Caldas.
