Man seriously injured in late night assault outside Dublin pub

A man has been left in a critical condition in hospital after he was assaulted outside a public house in west Dublin late on Sunday night.

The victim suffered a blow to the head outside the Clonsilla Inn just before 11pm.

The man, who is in his 40s, sustained life-threatening injuries in what gardaí believe was a so-called one-punch attack. Though he was receiving emergency treatment in hospital in the city on Monday, they are grave concerns for his recovery prospects.

Gardaí investigating the attack have appealed for witnesses to the “serious assault”, which they said occurred outside a licensed premises on Clonsilla Road, Clonsilla, Dublin 15.

“Shortly after 11pm, gardaí and emergency services responded to reports of an incident at the entrance to the car park of a licensed premises on Clonsilla Road,” Garda Headquarters said in a statement.

“A man in his 40s sustained serious injuries and was taken to Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown, where he remains in critical condition.”

Gardaí sealed off the scene as a major criminal investigation began.

Gardaí have arrested a man, in his 20s, who was being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act. He can be questioned for up to 24 hours without charge.

Gardaí have issue an appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity of the pub at the time of the incident to come forward.

They are also appealing to any road users who may have dashcam footage recorded in the area at the time to make that available to them.

The Garda investigation team at Blanchardstown station is especially interested in dashcam recorded on Clonsilla Road between the junctions of Shelerin Road and Porterstown Road.
