A model from New York has reportedly admitted to law enforcement that she was influenced by a party drug called “pink cocaine” when involved in a deadly crash in downtown Miami. After she was apprehended, she is said to have told the police that she was from the future.
Maecee Marie Lathers, aged 24, supposedly revealed that she was high on “pink cocaine” when she skipped a red light, resulting in her white Mercedes colliding with a Range Rover and Suzuki, leading to two fatalities and injuries to others. Court and jail documents online indicate she has been accused of driving without a licence and leaving the scene of a crash resulting in death or serious injuries.
During the bond hearing, Judge Mindy S. Glazer of Florida’s 11th Circuit Court cited the police dossier saying: “She’s an absolute danger to the community based on killing or driving when she shouldn’t have been in a car, and she’s clearly impaired based on her statements. And if it wasn’t for the citizens or witnesses nearby who stopped her, she would have completely fled.”
‘Meanwhile, Martez Gordon, defending attorney for Lathers, argued that his client poses no threat to public safety, mentioning her college degree and almost two-year residence in Florida reports the Mirror US Lathers stands accused of triggering a series of crashes on North Miami Avenue around 6.45am on August 10 due to excessive speed.
A passenger in the back of a Suzuki sedan tragically lost their life at the scene, while the driver, Abraham Ismael, was extracted from the mangled vehicle and later succumbed to his injuries at Jackson Memorial Hospital. His wife, Juanita Hernandez, who was seated next to him, is currently receiving medical treatment.
The individual behind the wheel of the Range Rover involved in the incident has also been admitted to hospital, as confirmed by officials.
Caught on CCTV footage, the social media model, known for her Instagram presence, was seen walking away from the crash site before being brought back by witnesses. Upon their arrival, police suspected she was intoxicated, with Glazer reporting: “She advised she was under the influence of ‘2c,’ a known party drug, and that she was from the future and had a crystal ball.”
The court heard that the woman’s driving privileges were revoked indefinitely as of January 16. Prosecutors are currently awaiting a toxicology report to decide if further charges will be pressed.
In the wake of the devastating accident, Hernandez expressed that her injuries have left her unable to work and lamented that her husband’s death has deeply affected their 16 year old son. In a heartfelt plea on GoFundMe, written in Spanish, the grieving widow shared: “I am now unable to work due to my injuries, and the boy’s life has been turned upside down.”
“His mother, who resides in Nicaragua, is battling Parkinson’s disease and is now not only mourning but also left without the financial support her son provided.”
As per prison records, Lathers is currently detained at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center with a bail set at $140,000.
