Noah Williams held his nerve in the men’s 10m platform final to take bronze, capping a superb Games for the British diving team.
There will be no return to the top of the podium for Jade Jones, after she fell to a shock first-round defeat to end her hopes of taekwondo glory. Jack Laugher also missed out on a medal in the men’s 3m springboard final.
China have won their 36th gold of the Games, moving them above the USA. Australia are third with Japan having leaped above both Britain and France into fourth, and just a single bronze is the difference between fifth and sixth.

How the medal table works
The medal table is ranked by gold medals, rather than overall medal count.
Silver and then bronze medals are used as tiebreakers if two countries are level on the same number of golds. Then alphabetical order comes into play.
