Sarah Ferguson jokes about Corrie cameo as she leaves cast in stitches

Sarah Ferguson has left people in stitches after walking the famous Coronation Street cobbles and entering the Rovers Return to showcase her pint-pouring skills.

Fergie, as the Duchess of York is affectionately known by fans and friends, said she would have to “bamboozle” producers to get a part on the soap whilst visiting the ITV Studios in Media City, Salford Quays, with soap star Sally Dynevor.

Together, the pair also toured the Prevent Breast Cancer charity headquarters in nearby Wythenshawe, Manchester.

Arriving on the Coronation Street set, the duchess met the executive producer of Corrie, Iain MacLeod, the soap’s assistant producer, Verity MacLeod, and Matt Cleary, director of production.

The ex-wife of Prince Andrew told executives from the soap that she would have to persuade them to “allow me to do a cameo”.

The 64-year-old, who once made a cameo appearance in the hit US TV series Friends, described walking on the famous cobbles as a “huge moment”.

After pouring the pint, she was hilariously advised by the actors not to drink it.

She also tried out a northern accent, much to the delight of those surrounding her, asking Dynevor, who plays Sally Metcalfe: “What will you have, lass?”

Dynevor and Fergie, who met while filming Loose Women, are now both patrons of the Prevent Breast Cancer charity.

Ms Dyvenor, 61, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2009, at the same time as her on-screen character.

The duchess received a breast cancer diagnosis last year and was later diagnosed with skin cancer. During her appearance, Fergie shared the initial terror she felt after being handed a double cancer diagnosis, fearing it spelt a “death sentence”.

About her own progress, she said: “I’m doing very well, thank you. If I was talking Gen Z I’d say ‘slay’.”

While Fergie’s visit was dotted with hilarious moments, the duchess also touchingly remembered the late Queen Elizabeth II, who visited the set in 2021.

She said: “We ought to drink a pint to my wonderful mother-in-law. She really loved her time here.”

She also rang the bell for last orders in the pub, where scenes which will air over Christmas were being filmed.

Before leaving, Mr MacLeod promised to “get thinking” about a cameo part for her and told her: “The pint was excellent by the way, considering it was the first one.”
