UK hot weather: Caribbean jet stream to spark heat blast across Britain in days

The UK is to be hit by a jet stream of Caribbean sun in just days according to new weather maps.

Forecasters from WXCharts and Netweather say the UK will see temperatures in excess of 22C between Thursday, May 30, and Sunday, June 2, as summer finally arrives.

According to forecasters, the likes of Norwich, London, and the Midlands will see the hottest temperatures exceeding 22C, while the majority of the country will see heat above 17C.

The coolest temperatures will be seen in Wales and the southwest of England.

As Friday approaches temperatures are expected to get hotter with the west of Scotland and London seeing temperatures higher than 23C.

But the hottest temperatures will not beat the warmest weather seen so far this year, with the village of Herstmonceux in East Sussex recording 25.9C last week.

But while there will be warmer weather, the period will not officially be a heatwave. The Met Office says a heatwave is a period of at least three consecutive days with daily maximum temperatures meeting or exceeding 25C.

For the same period, the national forecaster predicted there was a chance that heavy rain would accompany the hot temperatures.

Its forecast read: “Most likely an unsettled start to the period with western showers and eastern rain, potentially heavy in the northeast, before a transient settled spell late in the week.

“Early in the bank holiday weekend a band of rain, heavy at times moves in from the west, becoming weaker as it moves east becoming more showery in nature with scattered showers also following.

“Into the new week increasingly settled conditions more likely for most, though rain may threaten north-western areas early on whilst some southern or eastern areas are occasionally less settled with showers more likely later in the period though there will be some sunshine between times, the best of this in south-western parts.

“Temperatures are likely to be a little above average, but some large spatial differences are likely.”

Looking ahead to next week the Met Office said the UK could expect “warm sunshine” on Monday, with showers in northwest Scotland, Northern Ireland and possibly southern England.

For the rest of the week, its forecast read: “Turning unsettled with showers and a risk of more organised and heavy rain, with strong winds in eastern areas by mid-week. Still some dry and warm, sunnier interludes at times.”
