UN urged to investigate disturbing video of Russian troops torturing Ukrainians

Lubinets has shared the torture footage with the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

It shows acts which violate the Geneva Conventions requirement that all prisoners of war be treated humanely.

The Ombudsman wrote in a statement in his Telegram post: “According to preliminary information, this happened in the Kharkiv direction, where the Russians are currently trying to conduct offensive actions.

“The video recorded beatings, humiliation, threats, and an imitation of a shooting.

DON’T MISS:

“Unfortunately, such treatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war is not an exception to the rules, but a common tactic for the occupiers.”

Daily Express US has contacted the UN and the ICRC for comment.

Kharkiv – located in the northeast – is Ukraine’s second largest city and an area that has seen intense fighting since the outbreak of war in February 2022.

On Friday, a Moscow-installed official in Kharkiv said Putin’s forces have cemented their positions in the Strilecha-Lyptsi area which is made up of hills and a prime location to launch new attacks.

“The control of strategic hills nearby the settlement of Lyptsi allows our troops to keep under fire control the immediately adjacent defence line to the city of Kharkiv, and control all supply routes,” Russian-installed official Vitaly Ganchev told Russia‘s RIA state news agency.
