The House of Commons voted this evening by 363-103 to reject the SNP’s amendment to the King’s Speech, which called on the government to scrap the two-child benefit cap.
The amendment, tabled in the name of SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn, regretted that the King’s Speech “fails to include immediate measures to abolish the two-child benefit limit to universal credit”.
Only seven Labour MPs voted against the government. Among those were they were John McDonnell, the former shadow chancellor, and Rebecca Long-Bailey, runner up in the 2020 Labour leadership contest.
