Tories Announce Plan To Replace “Worst Performing” University Courses With Apprenticeships
The Tories’ new policy announcement zones in on duff university courses. They say that “too many university degrees are leaving students worse off“, especially as “one in three graduates are in jobs that don’t require a degree” and £1 of every £4 borrowed by students is never paid back. Sunak’s plan is to instead boost “high quality” apprenticeships by 100,000 a year by cutting red tape for SMEs and funding training for more of them. There are also vague pledges to “work with the creative sector to make sure apprenticeships are working for them“.
