Who to Meet, Where to Drink: Labour Conference 2024

WHERE TO GET DRINKS

Sunday. The New Statesman is hosting its kick-off drinks reception. IPPR and Labour Together are also hosting drinks at 7.30 p.m. Last orders will be at the Labour Campaign for International Development drinks, which goes on until 9.30 p.m. Then from 10 p.m. Dawn Butler is hosting her annual Jamaica party.

Monday. Recover with early drinks at 3.30 p.m. from the Labour Foreign Policy Group. Humanists UK are hosting drinks from 6.30 p.m. followed by a CBI reception at 8 p.m. and Christians on the Left’s one (expect wine) at 8.15 p.m. Late-night festivities are catered by Labour Digital at their Tech Drinks from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Tuesday. The Labour Climate and Environment Forum is hosting drinks at 7.30 p.m. at the same time as the Polish Embassy and UK in a Changing Europe have a reception. At 9.30 p.m. Labour Friends of Israel has its annual reception.

WHERE ARE THE WONKS

The wonks are hosting events left right and centre. Guido has ranked them:

  1. The IPPR (which is embedded in Downing Street) is hosting a whopping 30 events on every day of conference. Get lost and you’ll probably bump into one…
  2. The Institute for (Big) Government is hosting 17 events.
  3. The Social Market Foundation is hosting 14 events, mostly panel affairs.
  4. The Tony Blair Institute is hosting 10.

6 p.m. the Resolution Foundation is discussing pay conditions for low earners with Angela Rayner.

10:30 p.m. the Adam Smith Institute is arguing that Labour should embrace the market with its Next Generation Panel.

6 p.m. the Resolution Foundation is talking about Labour’s economic plans with Ed Miliband.

4.30 p.m. Jewish NGO Yachad is discussing “Building a Future Based on Dignity, Freedom and Security for All.
