Body of Hezbollah leader recovered ‘intact’ as Israel kills another top leader

The body of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Beirut, has been recovered, a source close to the group revealed yesterday.

The airstrike, which took place on Friday, also resulted in the death of Ali Karake, a senior commander in southern Lebanon, according to Hezbollah’s statement on Sunday. The group has not disclosed the names of others who died in the strike alongside Nasrallah and Karake.

Medical and security sources confirmed that Nasrallah’s body was found intact at the location of the Israeli attack in Beirut’s southern suburbs.In related developments, the Israeli military announced yesterday that Nabil Kaouk, another senior Hezbollah figure, was also killed amid ongoing exchanges of fire. Kaouk had been a member of Hezbollah since the 1980s, having previously held the position of deputy director general for the southern region.

“His body was recovered on Saturday, and after it was washed, it was placed in a shroud on Sunday,” said the source, who wished to remain anonymous. No details have been provided about funeral arrangements.Nasrallah, regarded as the most influential figure in Lebanon, led the Iran-backed Hezbollah for over three decades, positioning the movement as a key adversary of Israel until his death in Friday’s airstrike on the group’s stronghold in southern Beirut.

The Israeli military announced on Sunday that “more than 20 other terrorists of varying ranks” were also killed in the operation.

While Hezbollah has not officially commented on Kaouk’s death, tributes have been circulating among supporters since yesterday. The Israeli military stated, “The IDF continues to target and eliminate commanders of Hezbollah and those who pose a threat to the State of Israel.”

They also confirmed that Kaouk had been involved with Hezbollah since the 1980s, having served in key leadership roles in the southern region.In an ongoing campaign, Israel’s military revealed that around 120 Hezbollah positions in Lebanon were targeted in recent strikes.In a statement issued Sunday evening, the military confirmed that it had conducted intelligence-led airstrikes on Hezbollah targets across southern and deeper regions of Lebanon, hitting infrastructure and key headquarters used by the group’s units.
