NYSC Coordinator Urges Female Corps Members to Return to Their Parents, Not Boyfriends
The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs. Rifkatu Yakubu, has advised female corps members to go back to their parents after completing their service instead of moving in with their boyfriends.
Speaking in Bauchi during the distribution of National Service certificates, Yakubu addressed the 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members, emphasizing the importance of family support.
“Ladies, your boyfriends are not your parents,” she stated. “After receiving your certificates, go home and celebrate with your family. This is a significant milestone, and your parents deserve to share in your achievement.”
She also encouraged corps members to utilize the skills acquired through the NYSC’s Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.
“Even if you didn’t gain much from SAED, it’s not too late to learn something. Instead of staying idle, engage in productive activities to support your parents. Use your last allowance wisely—invest in learning a trade,” she advised.
Yakubu further warned against involvement in illegal activities such as internet fraud, kidnapping, or ritual killings, stressing that such actions contradict the values of the NYSC.
“You have been trained to be responsible citizens. Represent your family, your institution, and the NYSC with integrity,” she urged.
Additionally, she advised corps members to carefully check their certificates for any errors before laminating them.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), 1,652 corps members completed their service in Bauchi State, including 1,118 males and 534 females.
