A Tragic Day in UromiWhile en route to Kano from Rivers State to celebrate Eid with their families, a group of hunters found themselves targeted by a vigilante group. The vehicle carrying these hunters was forcibly halted, and the situation rapidly escalated. Misidentification led the vigilantes to believe the armed men were kidnappers, resulting in a brutal attack that left 16 hunters dead—many of whom were reportedly set ablaze. Fortunately, police intervention saved 10 individuals who were later rescued from the scene. The victims were given their final rites on Saturday.

According to Governor Okpehbolo’s administration, the vigilante group involved had no official registration with the Edo State Security Corps, which rendered their actions illegal and contrary to state policies.
